On June 27th, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 101 (the state’s 2025-2026 budget with $321.1 billion). In that budget, approximately $94.1 million has been allocated for mandated cost funding for all county and local public agencies for FY 2023-24 Annual Claims, including $23.9 million for RIPA.
In addition, some of you should be seeing RIPA reimbursement checks (for all timely claims submitted during FY 2023 - 2024) in mid-August. State records show local law enforcement agencies in California submitted 352 claims worth about $22.8 million. This means there is still over $31 million left in the RIPA state-mandated claims budget as a result of the prior year’s overfunding.
So what does this all mean for you and your agency?
